The Japanese energy company Tokyo Gas has made its first renewable energy investment into Finland. The company's subsidiary TG Nordic and the Danish company EWII jointly own a renewable energy company called TOWII Renewables, which has now acquired two wind power projects under development from the Finnish company Puhuri Ltd.

These are the Kopsa III and Ketunperä wind farms in Raahe, Northern Ostrobothnia. The projects comprise a total of 12 wind turbines with a total capacity of 74.4 megawatts. Production is scheduled to start in the first half of 2027.

"The investment shows that Finland is a genuinely competitive country for international investors in the clean transition. We have attractive conditions and a well-functioning infrastructure, which makes Finland an excellent location, especially for renewable energy production and sustainable energy intense industries," says Markku Kivistö, Head of Cleantech at Invest in Finland, part of Business Finland.

The investment shows that Finland is a genuinely competitive country for international investors in the clean transition.

The projects support Finland's goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to more than 50 per cent of final consumption by 2030. Tokyo Gas, on the other hand, aims to contribute to the reduction of 17 million tons of CO2 emission by 2030s in line with its long-term "Compass 2030" strategy.

Renewable energy projects not only contribute to climate goals, but also create opportunities for Finnish subcontractors, technology suppliers, and local communities boosting also research and development. The investment in TOWII Renewables is part of a broader development in which global interest in Finland's clean energy potential is constantly growing.
