Puhos Brown
Puhos Brown Data Center Site is located in Kitee, North Karelia, East Finland. The location close to the Russian border is ideal, e.g., in bridging the gap between Russia, the Baltic States and the rest of Europe.
Puhos Brown is an existing industrial area, with a former chipboard factory building. The area ready for utilisation is more than 100 ha, flat and fast to build. For electricity needs a 20 kV line is already available. Electrical power supply is 10 MW for the moment, and it is scalable up to 200 MW via connection to the national grid. The excess heat can be recovered with a cost efficient natural water cooling and there is a possibility for a connection to a district heat network.
There is an instant access to National Highway 6, railway and harbour. By airway it takes 1 h flight from Helsinki international airport and 1 h drive from Joensuu airport. In Kitee, there is a small airport, suitable for business jets.
The location offers favourable properties for the data center use: seismological stability, favourable Nordic natural conditions, general safety, security and political stability of the Finnish society, reliable electricity network, excellent coverage and capacity of telecommunication networks, advanced environmental knowhow, and well-educated ICT-personnel.
The City of Kitee and local community including KETI development company, as well as the universities and educational institutes located in the region, are committed to provide all needed support for the Data Center investment.

The site has an own industrial electric net. 20 kV line is ready to use, maximum 10 MW power supply to the site. In addition 110 kV line goes through the site area and the power station is located nearby the site (300 m). Investments on switchgears and transformers are needed depending on the type and capacity of the datacenter.
Notes on existing infrastructure
Industrial maintenance services and good logistics services are already available on the site, as there are several internationally companies already operating in Puhos area, such as Surfactor Finland Ltd and Hexion Ltd.
Power supply is easy to organize as the former chip board factory already needed Fingrid’s (National Grid) powerful 110 kV substation.
Natural risks
No natural risks on the area. No flooding, no earthquakes has taken place during the known history.
Proximity of major roads, airports, flight paths and railways
There is an instant and just renovated road access to National Highway 6. The Kitee Railway Station is located 10 km from the site. The Puhos Harbour is located immediately next to the data center site. There is a possibility to transport large scale cargo from the Baltic Sea to the Puhos Harbour via the Great Saimaa Lake. Joensuu Airport is located 80 km from the data center site. During the normal season, there are 5 daily connecting 1hr flights to Helsinki International Airport.
