Joroinen Huutokoski Data Center Site
Huutokoski Data Center Site locates in the city of Joroinen. Fingrid's Huutokoski powerfull 400/110 kV substation is only 200m distance from the DC site. It gives a great benefit in terms of costs, time and efforts to connect directly to National Electricity Grid (=Fingrid). Since the Fingrid's Huutokoski substation is so close, is there a remarcable save in cable materials and installation works when connecting power lines to the DC site. Huutokoski 400/110 kV susbtation has 4 pcs 400 kV and 7 pcs 110 kV power lines connected. Therefore the substation is extreme relieble and capable to to transfer power even 1000 MW if required. The substation itself has also 180 MW gas generators for back-up situations for electrical Network.
The DC site is about 20 ha size and can be enlarged if needed. Zoning is ready for DC operations.
DC cooling possibilities are excellent. Air cooling (direct or adiabatic) is a good choise and water cooling is really easy to organise since the Sysmä Lake locates only 400m distance from the DC site. The site are is quite even, shape is rectangular and it is easy to build there.
Joroinen is only 9 km from the DC site and bigger cities Varkaus in 20 km and Pieksämäki in 30 km distance.

What is needed to realize total power supply?
New 400 kV cables (200m), 400 kV switchgear, 400/110 kV transformers, 110 kV switchgear, 110/20 kV tarnsformers, 20 kV switchgears

Power supply is easy to organize. Local power Company Savonvoima Oy can provide connection to existing 20 kV grid and also their 110 kV grid.
However Fingrid (National Grid) has powerfull 400/110 kV substation only 200m distance so 110 kV and 400 kV connections are really fast to organize. Existing path ways for 110 kV and 400 kV overhead lines go beside the huutokoski DC site so no long time permit period is needed.

Arrangement of connection diversity
- Joroinen is well positioned from connectivity perspective, but needs fiber infra investment to be connected
- Joroinen DC area has quite close 3 diverse routes:
- two by Fingrid OPGW
- one by Telia
- DNA and Elisa are not present close to the DC area, but their services are available in Joroinen town
- Joroinen DC is located in an area where the network core POPs are not that close so the operators would need to invest in DWDM and MPLS equipment at the site
- The Fingrid fibers from Mikkeli and Varkaus would enable Cinia, DNA and Elisa to be connected to the DC
- Connectivity from Joroinen to the capital area of Finland
- main routes via OPGW and along the railroad route to Helsinki
- diverse route via OPGW via Varkaus and Pieksämäki
- Connectivity to Europe
- Shortest route to central Europe is combination of OPGW route to Mikkeli and further along the railroad route to Helsinki and via Cinia C-Lion1 cable from Helsinki to Rostock continuing to Frankfurt
- Shortest route to Stockholm is a combination of Fingrid OPGW to Varkaus and further via Cinia network to Turku and from there to Stockholm
- Third route via Telia network via Helsinki towards the Baltic route
- Connectivity to Russia
- Shortest route will be via OPGW to Mikkeli and from there via terrestrial fiber to Lappeenranta and to Vainikkala
