Natural water source available for cooling
Not availableNotes on cooling options
The area is suitable for several cooling solutions:
Air cooling, a large area allows outdoor use of Data Center's energy-friendly cooling. In this case, the cooling in the summer months, if necessary, is intensify by adiabatic cooling, which is sprayed with high pressure water into the blast air.
Geothermal cooling, such as air cooling, the extent of the area and terrain (rock and soil) allow for cooling and heating in the Data Center. The heat pump connected to the system cools the white spaces and generates heat to the district heating network.
It is possible to make liquid-cooling systems with high efficiency, cooling towers or dry coolers. Water chillers take care of cooling in a few summer months and are a backup system. The liquid-cooled system has the highest heat recovery efficiency.
It is also possible to combine the various cooling solutions mentioned above, whereby the system is called hybrid cooling.
Type of ground
Mainly moraine and rock. Site owner will take care of leveling site construction ready.

What is needed to realize total power supply?
Main connection: 110 kV connections to the national grid (Fingrid)
Grid connection to 110 kV in a first phase is possible for a 200 MW supply from Fingrid.
Investments for building up a new 110 kV connection to the Fingrid substation comes from data center side substation 110/20 kV, about 4 kilometers 110 kV grid line.
Optional connection: Connection to the distribution network operator (Caruna Oy)
One of Finnish biggest distribution grid company Caruna Oy operates in Riihimäki area. There are different connection zones in Caruna Oy’s network area to the medium voltage grid 20 kV.

Connection to the national grid (Fingrid) and back up power solutions:
Two 110 kV power lines connect at different corners of the Data Center with 50MVA open transformers. The incomers will be operating at N+1 with each incomer capable of providing 100% DC load
Each incomer shall be stepped down to a Medium Voltage (MV) level of 10.5 kV via a 50MVA transformer on-site for local distribution.
Data center backup system may be MV generators and / or MV DRUPS (Diesel Rotary UPS).

Local green energy
AvailableDetails on local green energy (suppliers)
Total electricity generation of Fortum power plant yearly is 120 GWh which is 50 % of the 25 MW data center consumption. By producing back up power with the Fortum Power & Heat plant’s biogas lowers the CO2 emissions.

75Describe different cable routes from the site to key directions in and from Finland
From Connectivity perspective Riihimäki Kuuloja DC location is good
The best local infrastructure is by Elisa, but all main operator backbone networks are quite easily reachable
Cinia, Elisa, Telia, DNA have multiple entries to Riihimäki on their backbone
Connectivity from DC area to Helsinki, Europe and Russia has multiple diverse routes
Available connectivity services:
Transparent wavelength services 1G to 100G with different interfaces
Direct connect to different cloud providers
MPLS-Services L3-VPN and Ethernet services
IP-Transit
Dark fiber services has limited availability on the backbone Riihimäki-Helsinki
How to be connected:
There is no need for big investment to the fiber infrastructure as such
A meet-me-vault close to the road 54 to secure a dual entry is required
Third entry requires some additional investments
Notes on fiber connectivity
All major providers available.
Commitment of local utility companies
Ongoing planning and investment readiness existsNotes on water utilities
Available on neighboring site.

0.7Notes on district heating network
Fortum Power & Heat power production plant (Ekokem):
Located at Kuuloja area. The power plant fuels the production process with industrial, commercial and community waste. Plant provides district heating and electricity for cities Riihimäki and Hyvinkää. The total annual DH production is 490 GWh (70 % to Hyvinkää region DH and 90 % to Riihimäki region)
Plant provides biogas to the national gas grid.
District heating grid:
The local district heating (DH) company Riihimäen Kaukolämpö Ltd’s have district heating connection to the Riihimäki and Kuuloja area. Heat demand in the grid was 180 GWh in the year 2016.

Liquid natural gas availableDistance to natural gas network / [km]
0.7Opportunities to utilize waste heat
The heat pump system could be owned and managed by a third party operator who makes the investment and compensates financially for the recovered energy taken from server rooms. This provides CAPEX returns.
This third party could be the local energy company or some other suitable operator that transfers the energy to local district heating network or other consumers
The potential for recovered heating energy is strongly dependent on the energy demand in local area. Thus the 20 MW heat production might exceed the demand. The required heat pump systems should be sized accordingly.
The cooling system of the Data Center should be designed so that it can independently handle the total heat load in any situation, regardless of any possible heat recovery systems.

Notes on local ecosystem
Best possible location in Southern Finland in terms of power supply and cost efficiency. Site is located between
to two separate 110kV National grid lines.
Industrial size excess heat re-use option is making the location especially energy efficient enabling to invest
sustainable and green processes.
Availability of skilled laborforce
A good supply of personnel, 7000 commuting out from Riihimäki region, and interested in open positions in
Riihimäki. Also Helsinki area inhabitants are interested to work in Riihimäki as they can commute opposite to
rush traffic.
Higher education resources
Skilled local workforce, HAMK (Häme university of applied sciences) offers university level education in computer sciences in Riihimäki. Student intake is 50 per year, 150 students in training constantly to specialize in
