North Shore Data Center – Alholmen
North Shore Data Center – Alholmen is located in Jakobstad, Ostrobothnia the west coast of Finland.
Extreme availability
110 kV electrical power supply via two separate routes to two national 400kV substations and bio power plant next to the site as a redundancy option.
It is possible for the data center to operate in island mode, powered via the neighboring CHP power plant.
Cooling
The seawater cooling option enables high performance computing (HPC) and “heavy use” cloud environment (e.g. bitcoin mining).
Free cooling potential 365 days a year.
Green aspects
Locally produced renewable energy sources available (biomass, biogas, biofuel, water, wind).
The data center has a reliable and cost-effective location for energy supply next to the world´s largest biofuel CHP power plant.
The thermal power can be re-used in the local heating network.
Connectivity
Very stable and fast connections to the national fiber network and thus to Europe and the Nordic Countries.
Dark fiber and conduit are available to the site.
Our region is in leading position for supply of high-speed fiber broadband in Finland.
Accessibility
There are a harbor and heavy railway next to the site which makes accessibility very efficient both in construction phase and in operation phase.
There are good connections to the area by plane with two international airports nearby.
We have a railway station and main roads nearby.
The site is near Jakobstad city center and is easy accessible.
Region
Ostrobothnia has in the last few decades grown to become Finland’s industrial heart. The area has a strong tradition of entrepreneurship and the largest number of companies per capita on the mainland of Finland. The export share of approximately 70% is exceptionally high. The strong bilingualism in the region has led to a great deal of knowledge and experience in internationalization. The site is close to Vaasa which is the city with the biggest concentration of energy technology companies in the Nordic countries.
Jakobstad, also called Pietarsaari in Finnish, is a mecca of small and medium-sized export companies. The town is full of export-oriented niche businesses that thrive on the global markets. There are companies that have fewer than 50 employees yet export to more than 50 countries! Furthermore, you will find a skilled and loyal workforce, versed in languages and with high working moral.
